Wexford in Bloom – Back in 2021 !

The flowering of the town, both in communal areas and for local businesses committed to flowering their own premises, requires planning by our team from early April, with the ordering of the window boxes, the selection of flowers and plants, and the expertise of the nursery in tending to them to produce an explosion of colour at just the right time to provide the uplifting and dazzling colour transformation of the town in early June.

Unfortunately, in 2020, the Covid situation meant that, for the first time in 10 years, we were unable to carry out this beautiful transformation. For 2021, however, we made the decision to put the machinery in motion, and all of the flower displays are being implemented on June 1st. Our collaberation with the nursery will ensure that there will be a rainbow of colours in the town all the way to September!

Wexford in Bloom Summer 2016

It is Summer time and that means Wexford in Bloom was back to flower up our streets. All the baskets have arrived for the town, and they are looking fantastic. We received our large flower delivery from Beechdale Garden Center at the start of the Summer which included all the boxes and baskets for local businesses and residents. The Wexford in Bloom volunteers had a busy few days getting the baskets up and boxes delivered. Thank you to everyone who helped out in these projects. This year we also saw hanging flower baskets being installed in the crescent for the first time. Keep an eye out for all the beautiful flowers around our town. Thank you to everyone who took part in Wexford in Bloom 2016.

We would also like to say a big thank you to several local businesses for their recent donations to help flower up our town. Thanks to Woodies who donated hundreds of flower bulbs in January so we got lots of extra plants sown this year. Recently Aldi donated a large number plants which Wexford Tidy Towns/Wexford in Bloom have being planting in areas around the town including St. Peter’s Square. It is great to see businesses getting involved either through donations which are always welcome or taking part in the flower basket/box scheme with Wexford in Bloom.

Thanks to the residents also who have chosen to get involved in this scheme we really appreciated everyone taking part so the local community and visitors can enjoy the colourful displays around the town. We will be looking for volunteers to help deliver the baskets to the retailers and residents in the coming weeks so get in touch if you can lend a hand.

Wexford in Bloom Winter Planting

Wexford in Bloom and Wexford Tidy Towns have been out planting for the Winter and Spring. The winter planting is immediately obvious around town with heathers, ivies, pansies, polyanthuses and daisies flourishing in the Bullring, at the Railway station, the Crescent, on Abbey Street from the Arts Centre to Selskar Abbey and at Wygram. Expect to see lots of yellows, purples, deep reds and pinks interspersed with the rich winter green foliage.

Lying quietly underneath the winter flowering plants are daffodil and tulip bulbs waiting for the soil temperature to rise and thence to push themselves up into the world in February and March. Hundreds of bulbs have gone in around the town and hopefully most will appear and give us a real blast of colour this coming Spring.

Thank you to all our volunteers who helped out with the planting in any way and we look forward to seeing the flowers sprouting in the Spring. Wexford Tidy Towns and Wexford in Bloom are always looking for people to help with planting and pruning and weeding so if you would be interested send us an email to say you are and we will call on you when the time is right. Use any of the following details to get in touch with us we would love to hear from you in relation to anything we do.
